Samfélag fyrir Öll – Community for All

Samfélag fyrir Öll – Community for All is a grassroots, non-profit organization based in Keflavík, Iceland. We focus on creating inclusive, creative workshops for refugees, asylum seekers, and volunteers working alongside marginalized communities. Through our activities, we aim to empower underrepresented individuals, building confidence and social connections that bridge gaps between minorities and the local community.

Organisation activities currently take place at the Red Cross venue, where we run weekly classes called ‘Empowering Voices’. Program of the classes includes:

  • deepening body awareness by breathing, guided meditation and movement exercises
  • practicing communication skills by verbal and nonverbal improvisations and storytelling
  • developing an abstract thinking by engaging in an experimental performance content and production (texts, sounds, costumes)
  • team work, collaboration in creative problem solving and choreography

The participants in the classes change frequently due to the dynamic and uncertain circumstances faced by asylum seekers. This turnover means there is constant variation in who attends. Each six-month program concludes with a public presentation in the form of an experimental theatre play. In 2024, the Empowering Voices group performed twice in Keflavík. These performances create a space for minorities to engage directly with the local community, fostering visibility and mutual understanding across diverse backgrounds.
